June 30, 2013-
We are very pleased to announce the commencement of the first annual Brian K.
Betts Memorial Scholarships.
Students applying for the scholarships were required to meet established
selection criteria and fill out an application form consisting of various
questions and a 500-word essay about their college plans. Recipients of the
scholarships were chosen by a Selection Committee.
One scholarship was offered to eligible graduating students at Stonewall Jackson
High School in Manassas, VA, the alma mater of Brian Betts. Nikia Ewell is the
recipient from Stonewall. Nikia is enrolled at the University of Virginia and will major in Elementary Education.
The other scholarship was awarded to a past student of Brian’s, Christian Carter, from Dunbar High School in Washington, DC. Christian will be attending Sacred Heart University and major in Athletic Training.
Brian’s sister, Jennifer, presented both of the awards.
